EXPLOSION ROCK AND GUNFIRE IN SARINAH
The impact of the
explosion that occurred in police post
On 14 January 2016,
several blast followed by explosion and gunfire were reported to have occurred
in Central Jakarta, more preciously
occurred outside the Sarinah shopping mall. At least eight people were
reported dead, and 23 others were injured due to those attack. The eight people
that were killed including four attackers and four civilian (three Indonesians
and an Algerian-Canadian).The first explosion was reported in the Starbucks cafe,
and was followed six more blast over the next 10 minutes at the police post
outside the mall.
Police said that “the
situation was under control” because they were still looking up the suspected
gunmen who might be hiding in the Skyline building. It is still not clear who
are the perpetrators.
The Starbucks café,
near a United Nations (UN), as well as luxury hotels and foreign embassies
where is an area that is frequented by foreigners has become the next target of
possible suicide bombings earlier in the morning.
Earlier today, one of
the Dutch news agency reported that one Dutchman was killed. However, The
United Nations Environtment Programme (UNEP) clarified that a Dutchman was only seriuouly injured in
the attack, and he still alive.
Authorities have
cordoned off much in Central Jakarta. The Dutch Embassy strongly recommended
people to avoid traveling to avoid the large crowds in that surrounding area.
Starbuck is a coffe
place that often visited by the foreigners, but it reacted by temporarily
closing all it branches in Jakarta, eventhough it is one of the biggest
potential target.
